Liverpool 1 Sparta Prague 0 (1-0 agg)

A late goal by Dirk Kuyt saw Liverpool through to the last 16 of the Europa league after stubborn Sparta resistance at Anfield. The Merseyside club will now face Braga in the next round.

Manchester City who also drew 0-0 in their first leg tie beat Aris Salonika 3-0 at Eastlands to win 3-0 on aggregate and will face Dynamo Kiev in the next round.

The other British club still in the competition is Rangers and they face PSV Eindhoven  in the last 16. The ties will be played mid-March.

Arsenal 1 Stoke 0

Sebastien Squillac (I have no idea who he is either) scored the goal that took Arsenal to within one point of leaders Manchester United. The victory was overshadowed for Arsenal though with injuries to the Gunners skipper Cesc Fabregas and Theo Walcott both coming off injured. United do have a game in hand but they have a few very tough fixtures coming up including games against Chelsea and Liverpool. As we approach the business end of the season I think it could be an exciting run-in. Anyone fancy Liverpool at 15-1 to capture the last Champions league spot?

Bet on the football with

Marseille 0 Manchester United 0

It comes to something when Adrian Chiles has to apologies for the game we just watched but and I quote “I’m sorry you had to sit through that” pretty much sums up this game. The winner will take it all in the second leg.

Liverpool are up tomorrow in the ropey league, they take on Sparta Prague at Anfield. King Kenny (KK) has come out today to say that Carrol definitely won’t be fit for this tie and in all likelihood will not be fit for West Ham on Sunday. I guess it’ll be the United game them, wonder what the odds are of him getting a goal?

Bet on the cricket with

Cardiff City 2 Leicester City 0

So Cardiff got their promotion campaign back on track with a fine 2-0 win over Sven Goren Erikson’s Leicester. Goals and from Michael Chopra and loan signing and former city youngest Aaron Ramsey sealed a deserved victory in Dave Jones’ 300th game in charge of the Bluebirds.

Forest only managed a draw against Preston which allowed City to go third as fierce rivals Swansea beat Coventry 1-0 to take second spot, just a point above Cardiff. With 13 games left it is still all to play for those clubs hoping to secure an automatic promotion spot.

Football Section

Here at Senghenydd Cricket Club we like all sports in particular football. We all love Cardiff City. The year they got to the Playoff final we had to play cricket with only 9 players as most of the squad had made the trip to Wembley.

So in order to keep people in touch with the cricket club and get them visiting the site more and more  I have decided to start a football blog with all the latest news and views from the world of football

Hopefully this will inspire some comments and interaction. I know people read the site. Skippy told me at the last committee meeting that he loves the updates we provide and the regular email’s that he gets.

So if you want to follow all the latest football news and views, then visit from time to time. I’m sure there will be something on there that interests you.
